The New Jersey Devils announced today that the club has signed forward Matyas Melovsky to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning in the 2026–27 season. The announcement was made by President and General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Melovsky, 21, is currently playing his first professional season in North America on a one-year, one-way AHL contract. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward has registered 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists) in 35 games with New Jersey’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets.
A native of Uničov, Czechia, Melovsky joined Utica following three standout seasons in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar from 2022–23 through 2024–25. Over 169 regular-season games in the QMJHL, the right-handed shot recorded an impressive 201 points (50 goals, 151 assists), along with 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 35 playoff contests.
During the 2022–23 campaign, Melovsky led all league rookies with 52 assists, quickly establishing himself as one of the premier playmakers in junior hockey.
Before making the move to North America, Melovsky developed in the HC Vítkovice system from 2017–18 through 2021–22. He also made his professional debut with Vítkovice’s top team during the 2021–22 season.
Born on May 25, 2004, Melovsky was selected by the Devils in the sixth round (171st overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft.
On the international stage, he has represented Czechia at events organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), including the 2022 U18 World Championship and the 2024 U20 World Junior Championship. At the 2024 tournament, Melovsky helped Czechia capture a bronze medal while finishing tied for the tournament lead in assists with 10.
With a proven track record as a dynamic distributor and steady offensive contributor, Melovsky now takes the next step in his development as he works toward earning a permanent role in New Jersey’s long-term plans.
