Laine Trade
The Los Angeles Kings have reportedly been quite active in the player market.
Kings GM Ken Holland has been in close contact with the Canadiens regarding Laine, but for now the trade discussions have been put on hold.
Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period confirms that the Kings had been considering adding Laine to their lineup. However, at the moment, it appears that the Kings do not have a clear role for Laine and are therefore exploring other options to strengthen their roster.
The Kings’ challenges grew significantly during the Milano Cortina Olympics, when star forward Kevin Fiala suffered an injury.
Fiala is certain to miss the remainder of the regular season, and if the Kings make the playoffs this year, the Swiss forward could potentially be ready to return.
Before the Olympics, the Kings acquired Russian forward Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers at a very reasonable price and immediately signed the superstar to a two-year contract extension. GM Holland is under significant pressure to strengthen the Kings, as this is the final season of franchise icon and captain Anze Kopitar.
In the City of Angels, the organization is aiming to build the strongest possible team around Kopitar to give the Slovenian one more opportunity to compete for the third Stanley Cup championship of his career.
The Kings won the Stanley Cup during Kopitar’s tenure in the summers of 2012 and 2014.
