The Colorado Avalanche have reacquired forward Nazem Kadri from the Calgary Flames, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston. TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that the two teams had previously discussed a deal involving Kadri and revisited the talks on Friday.
Kadri, 35, has recorded 12 goals and 41 points in 61 games with the Flames this season. The veteran centre previously played for Colorado from 2019 to 2022 and was a key contributor when the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2022. During that playoff run, Kadri registered seven goals and 15 points.
Kadri is currently in the fourth season of a seven-year, $49 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $7 million. The deal runs through the 2028–29 season.
Originally drafted seventh overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2009, Kadri has appeared in 1,046 NHL games, recording 319 goals and 751 points during his career with the Maple Leafs, Avalanche and Flames. He was selected to the NHL All-Star Game in 2022 while with Colorado and again in 2023 as a member of the Flames.
Kadri has also represented Canada internationally, playing at the 2014 IIHF World Championship.
Flames acquire Ryan Strome earlier Friday
Earlier on Friday, Calgary completed another move by acquiring forward Ryan Strome from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.
Strome, 32, has recorded three goals and nine points in 33 games this season and has struggled to maintain a regular spot in the Ducks’ lineup.
The 6-foot-1 centre joined Anaheim as a free agent in 2022 and produced exactly 41 points in each of the past three seasons. Strome is in the fourth season of a five-year, $25 million contract with an annual cap hit of $5 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
