Speculation has emerged over a possible sport switch for cross-country skiing’s undisputed superstar.
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won everything there was to win at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina. Six gold medals underline the fact that, at the moment, he has no real rival in the world of cross-country skiing.
Now, a new challenge could be waiting.
The manager of the Norwegian cycling team Uno-X Pro Cycling Team, former road cycling star Thor Hushovd, has expressed his willingness to bring Klæbo into professional cycling.
“The most successful Winter Olympic athlete of all time may be heading to professional cycling,” cycling magazine Velo wrote in a headline.
Invitation to Train With the Team
In an interview with Velo, Hushovd revealed that he has already suggested Klæbo train with Uno-X.
Cycling is not entirely unfamiliar territory for the Norwegian skiing star. Among other things, he has joined Norway’s cycling team to get a feel for cobblestone sections ahead of the Tour of Flanders.
“I told Klæbo last year that once the Olympics were over, he should consider training with the Uno-X team,” Hushovd said.
“I’ve ridden with him, and it’s clear that he’s a natural talent on the bike. He sits very solidly, has excellent control, and adapts quickly.”
Klæbo: “We’ll See After the Olympics”
According to Velo, Klæbo commented on the possibility last summer on Instagram.
“First I need to compete at the Winter Olympics, and then we’ll see. After the Olympics, I’ll start thinking about what to do next. Maybe joining Uno-X could be the next goal,” Klæbo said.
Hushovd believes Klæbo would be an excellent fit for road cycling.
“I’ve always said that Klæbo has exceptional physical capacity — something truly unique. With that engine, he could succeed in almost any endurance sport,” Hushovd stated.
For now, Klæbo remains at the top of cross-country skiing. But once the Olympic chapter closes, the cycling world may be watching closely.
