Spanish football giant FC Barcelona has received significant news regarding the progress of its stadium redevelopment project.
The club confirmed on Tuesday that the Barcelona City Council has granted a new usage permit for phase 1C of the stadium renovation.
The decision will allow more sections of Camp Nou to open, increasing the stadium’s capacity and bringing additional revenue to the club.
Stadium Capacity Increases Significantly
The newly approved permit will substantially increase the number of spectators allowed at Camp Nou.
Until now, the stadium has been limited to 45,401 spectators, but with the new authorization the capacity will rise to 62,652 spectators.
The expansion is mainly possible thanks to the opening of the stadium’s north stand, known as Gol Nord, which adds thousands of additional seats.
More seats naturally mean higher matchday income, as the club will be able to sell significantly more tickets for each home match.
New VIP Areas Bring Major Financial Boost
Beyond the increased capacity, one of the most important financial aspects of the project is the opening of new VIP and hospitality areas.
These premium spaces are located between the first and second tiers of the stadium and are designed for corporate clients and high-end ticket packages.
VIP seating and hospitality packages are among the most profitable products for football clubs, often generating several times the revenue of standard tickets. As a result, the new areas could bring millions of euros in additional income to Barcelona.
Barcelona Returned to Camp Nou During Renovation
Barcelona returned to its iconic home stadium last November after renovation work began in the summer of 2023.
The massive redevelopment is part of the club’s broader Espai Barça project, which aims to modernize the stadium and surrounding facilities.
Although construction continues in several parts of the venue, the phased reopening allows the team to play matches at Camp Nou while work continues.
Important Matches Ahead
The increased capacity will be put to use immediately, as Barcelona faces several key matches in the coming weeks.
The next match at Camp Nou will take place on Sunday, when Barcelona faces Sevilla FC in La Liga.
After that, the stadium will host the second leg of a UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Newcastle United on March 18.
With more seats and new premium areas available, these matches could also prove highly lucrative for the Catalan club.
